    This course provides an overview of the role of managers in the modern organization. Students will learn about the history of management theory and will examine in depth the major management functions of planning, leading, organizing and controlling.

    This course is designed to help participants better understand the process, the analytical tools that can assist the process and how best to prepare technologies to survive commercialization. The course includes elements of entrepreneurship, relationship building, organizational change, as well as project and personnel management.

    A course of directed study involving selected readings and analyses in developing knowledge areas which are applicable to several of the engineering disciplines in the School of Engineering.

  • MGMT 3020 - Corporate Social Responsibility

    This course provides students an opportunity to examine a comprehensive range of topics and issues related to business and sustainability and aims to explore the implications of changing stakeholder expectations, and opportunities for organizational sustainable value creation.

  • MGMT*3320 - Financial Management

    The focus is on the management of cash, accounts receivable, inventory and short and intermediate term liabilities. Emphasis is placed on the analysis and forecasting of financial statements, and financial modeling for planning and controlling the growth of the business enterprise.

  • MGMT*4200 - Management Capstone

    This course examines management from a strategic perspective, focusing on how organizations can achieve competitive advantage through leveraging their resources. Students will be challenged to integrate their knowledge of management theories to develop strategic solutions to organizational issues.

  • MGMT*4050 Business Consulting

    Offered through the Centre for Business and Student Enterprise (CBaSE), this project-based course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to engage with community organizations by working as consultants in interdisciplinary teams, and to investigate and propose sustainable solutions to live cases put forth by real world clients. Project requirements will vary based on the needs of the assigned client.

  • MGMT*4260 - International Management

    This course covers international business and deals with the strategic and functional areas of management in the international business environment. This course examines the factors that shape strategic management outside a firm's domestic markets. It uses a mix of readings, lectures, case studies, individual and group projects.

  • MGMT*6400 Project Management

    This course provides students with an understanding of the concepts, principles, and practices for project management. It introduces an understanding and appreciation of the importance of managing projects, project teams, the project management systems and tools, the various components of the project management process, and professional codes of conduct and ethics. The emphasis is on the techniques most frequently used in the context of, both internal and external organizational roles of a project manager.

  • UNIV*2200 - Towards Sustainability

    This course will introduce students to the complex and interrelated issues of sustainability. It will explore why it is important to understand the environmental, economic and social issues of our world and why they must be addressed in a holistic way. It will allow students to realize the impact they will make on the world and give them to knowledge to develop values that will help chart their career. This course will provide the opportunity to understand issues beyond their chosen discipline.

  • HROB 3050 - Employment Law

    This course will introduce students to Canadian employment law, specifically rules that govern the relations between employees and employers. Subject areas will include the history of employment law, employment contracts, creation and modification of the employment relationship, employer and employee obligations, employment standards, human rights legislation and termination. International comparisons will also be examined.

  • BUS2090DE -Individuals and Groups in Organizations

    The course serves as an overview to organizational behaviour. It examines the individual, the group, the organization and how the three interrelate in order to enhance performance and productivity.

  • MEDM 604 – Ethical Decision Making

    This course explores the concept of business ethics and responsibility from a societal perspective. It suggests that corporate sustainability is better executed as a system of related strategies, as opposed to a series of piecemeal initiatives. It will allow students to reflect upon the ethical implications of their decisions, and to analyze and evaluate the economic, social, and environmental responsibilities of their organization.

  • BUSM10000 – Business Fundamentals

    Students examine the fundamentals of today's business world from a Canadian and international perspective. Topics include current trends in information and communication technology and domestic and international operations. Other themes include: the growth of international business as a result of a changing global economy the role of ethics and social responsibility. Students learn how businesses organize and operate both domestically and internationally, how to take advantage of new business opportunities, while dealing with significant challenges operating in the global economy. The importance of small entrepreneurship and innovation in the economy is emphasized Throughout the course, a comprehensive and current body of knowledge including theories, issues, and corporate practices is explored which focuses on real-world application and implications for Canadian companies. Students will learn through interactive lectures, case studies that analyze businesses, and a business strategy simulation that applies and integrates all course modules.

  • BUSM20000 – Applied Research in Business

    Students examine the various components of the research process and how they relate to the development of supportable business conclusions, the generation of new ideas and the reliability of research findings.The research process, including formulating research questions; understanding qualitative and quantitative research; sampling, measurement, research design, data analysis; as well as the development of research projects is included. The major theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of research are examined including the idea of validity in research, reliability of measures, and ethics. Students will learn through a combination of interactive lectures, case studies, group work, online and/or in class discussions, inquiry-based activities and hybrid delivery.

  • HRMT14000 – Organizational Behaviour

    Students examine individual, team, and organizational-level factors influencing behaviour within the workplace and organizational performance. Students learn about perception, personality, values, attitudes, motivation, stress, teams, communication, power and politics, conflict, leadership and decision making. Students examine organizational structure, culture, and change in order to enhance the understanding of workplace behaviour. Through the use of interactive lectures, case studies, journaling, presentations and classroom activities, students better understand employee behaviour and best practices within organizations. Underlying themes include enhancing organizational effectiveness and the quality of life for those in the organizational environment.
