Driving Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Research on Commercialization and Social Impact

Summary

Dr. Burga is a Faculty Advisor for the University of Guelph Enactus team (https://enactus.ca/) and is a North American representative on the Enactus Global Faculty Research Network. Dr. Burga’s research into innovation and the subsequent commercialization of those innovations suggests that they play a crucial role in entrepreneurship in general and social entrepreneurship in particular. Innovation research involves the exploration and development of new ideas, technologies, and solutions that can revolutionize industries and create competitive advantages. Through this research Dr. Burga will enable entrepreneurs to identify gaps in the market and uncover unmet customer needs, leading to the creation of innovative products, services, or business models. His research explores how the commercialization of these innovations involves transforming ideas into tangible offerings that can be effectively marketed, sold, and scaled. Issues that are explored include strategic planning, market analysis, and the implementation of effective business strategies to maximize the value and impact of the innovation. Since successful commercialization allows entrepreneurs to generate revenue, attract investment, and establish a sustainable competitive position in the marketplace, Dr. Burga explores the motivation and orientation of entrepreneurs at Enactus and in industry to further understand characteristics that would allow these entrepreneurs to succeed. Thus, this research into innovation and its commercialization, will help entrepreneurs to unleash their creative potential, drive economic growth, and shape the future of industries.
